Let’s cover basic vocabulary first.

Then let’s make a sentence like I am American.

Word Order
The word order in English and Japanese are different as you can see above.
Wa (subject particle)
In Japanese we use some particles (like wa, wo, ga, ni, he).
“Wa” is called a subject particle and comes after the subject. (In this case “Watashi=I” is the subject.)
